This week was quick so i'm guessing this email will be too. Haha. But seriously though this week flew by.
This last Sunday we went and woke up Carlos to bring him to church. His phone alarm did not go off. All good. He made it just in time for Sacrament.
Elder McLaughlin is now the new senior in charge of technology. Elder McCollum has had 2 days to train him. He leaves in 2 days. Everyone is scrambling to learn how to drive the truck because if they do not, I'll be the only one who can drive it.
We met with an Evangelist pastor the other day. That was a fun meeting. I doubt that he'll be swapping sides anytime soon, but it was no more than an enlightening experience. You know how the Apostles go to events where the Mormons, Catholics, Jews, etc. Get together and talk about marriage or Christlike attributes or something that we all agree on? Imagine that but a bit more free form. We said the prayer at the end holding hands and everyone got to say a little something. Reminds me of one of our family reunions haha.
I finally got all the interviews with President. Only problem is that Elder Durfee was moved from his job as secretary of Trulli to Assistant to Pres. They had divisions that day and went on a micro to the outskirts of the mission. He's the only one out of the whole mission that still needs an interview. Oy. President and I talked about a number of topics, but I think the main idea behind it is that your relationship with God comes first. If that goes down in quality, everything else is much more likely to start dropping as well.
We're teaching the missionary lessons to the Stake President's 7 year old in preparation for his baptism. We completed it this week with his practice baptismal interview. Highlights were:
Us- 'Tommy. When you start your own family, you need to be married. You also know that you should be treating all the girls in your life with respect ok? Will you promise to do that? ''
Tommy '' (Long silence) No. ''
Us- '' Wait what? Why not? ''
Tommy - '' Because Sofia (points to Sofia her older sister (She's 11))
Us - '' Tommy you know you're not supposed to be mean to your older sister right? ''
Tommy-'Yyah but what if it's her fault and she starts fighting with me? '
Us-'Hey Tommy you know what the tithing is right? '
Tommy''Uhhh. Nope ''
Us- 'Alright Tommy. We're going to ask your cousin Bruno to help you out (Bruno is 8 years old) ''
Bruno- '' You have to pay 10% of the money you make like that one time that I got 600 pesos from my grandma and I wanted to pay 60 of it as a tithing so my mom told me to give it to her and she put It was in her wallet and when we got to Sunday and I asked her to give it to me, she opened up her wallet and it wasn't there because she spent it on something. ''
Us- '' Nice. Thanks Bruno.''
Good stuff. We'll finish up with a nice scripture that I read this week in Alma 32: 6-7
6 And now when Alma heard this, he turned him about, his face straight toward him, and he beheld with great joy; For he saw that their afflictions had truly humbled them, and that they were in a preparation to hear the word.
7 Therefore he said no more to the other multitude; But he stretched out his hand, and cried to those whom he saw, who were truly penitent, and said unto them,
I added the bold there. What says me is that Alma stopped talking to people who could've been receptive maybe and decided to teach those who were actually showing that they were ready for his words. Lots of times as missionaries, we teach people who are not ready when we really should be focusing on those who are. Lots of times in life, we give our time and attention to things that do not really deserve them that much. Often it's a good thing to step back and re-prioritize what's really important to us. If we pray and seek God's help, he will push us in the right direction. He will help us find what we should be looking for. I love you guys. Have a great week!
