Friends and family,
This week was a good one filled with ups and downs. We worked very hard. I´m getting much more used to the area now.
We spent most of the week working with a lady named Julia. She´s great. She started to progress really well right when I got here and she was planning on getting baptized this weekend. We finished teaching her everything and set up her baptismal interview. We did everything that we could but at the end of the week, she just didn´t feel prepared enough to come. That was tough, but we´ll try to find her again this week and find out what happened.
In church, we, the missionaries, were in charge. Elder Chamberlain, Hermana Kelson, and I gave talks. Hermana Herbon did a special musical number. We filled the time incredibly well. I was actually kind of surprised. The closing prayer finished at 12 on the dot. I really do like speaking in front of people. Plus everyone in the branch is a pretty good sport. They laughed at my dumb jokes, so I guess I did something right.
I found out this week that my attitude wasn´t quite right about the work. I´d have to say that one of the biggest secrets that I´ve learned in my mission is that there is no better cure for discouragement and difficulty that good, hard work. Honestly just going to work and serving others has been something that has helped me to feel really good about myself here in the mission. Just a word of advice that if you don´t feel good about where you´re at right now, don´t worry. Find what needs to be done and do it. Don´t procrastinate making changes that will make your life and others´ better.
Scripture of the week is 1 Nephi 19:9 because I shared it in the district meeting that I gave today. I´m both Zone and District Leader. It´s kind of weird but it works out. We talked about how charity and love applies to the mission work. Helping others to understand that we want them to keep commitments because we know that it will help them and we love them. Jesus Christ dealt with a lot of injustice and hardship for us. We can´t really expect to follow his example and not experience some of the things that he felt. I imagine that a lot of people didn´t follow through on commitments that Jesus gave them... Nonetheless, He continued with the work that He was called to do.
I hope that everyone has a fantastic week. I love you guys!
