Week 22 Viviana's Baptism

For anyone crazy enough to still read my blog,

This week was interesting. You ever have those weeks where you start to see all of the things that you haven`t been doing and can`t do, but should be doing? Yeah, that was this week for me. I saw so many things that I see as ``essential missionary skills`` that I just can`t quite do right now. Nonetheless, I`m working hard to improve. I also got to see how crazy I am this week. I got pretty sick. Fever, achy, super tired, and despite all of that, I still went out with my companion and worked. I basically had to give myself a pep talk for the last hour of the day because I was feeling so bad.

That day was actually very interesting. It was the day of the baptism of Viviana. We taught her one last lesson in the morning and then went to go to lunch. While at lunch, we realized that we didn`t have the key to the chapel and I realized that I was sick because I wasn`t hungry and I felt bad. We got the zone leaders to help us out and let us into the chapel. While they cleaned the font, I crashed in a chair. I felt kind of bad leaving the cleaning to them, but I probably wouldn`t have been much help anyways in my condition. After sleeping for a solid hour, people started to show up. Most of those who came were investigators and we really wanted to start at 5, but we started at 6. Elder Jarrìn baptized Viviana. He was super excited about that. We got home around 7:30 after cleaning a little bit in the chapel. We left at 8 for the last hour of the day. Man I was stuggling, but we did it.

The next day was better. My fever broke in the night, but I still felt really weak. We went to church and then proceeded to have a very chill day. Nice lunch with a member of the stake presidency. Riding in a collectivo and walking and talking in part of our area. Going to bed a little earlier. Very nice.

To back up a bit, Friday I had divisiones. I went to Fransisco Alvarez to work with our district leader Elder Tingey. He`s leaving the mission in a couple of week and it was very refreshing to see his point of view on the mission. We bought sausage and bread from a chino (chinese supermarket) and made Choripan. It was really good.

Something that Elder Jarrìn told me this week I really liked. I often get down as I look around and see all of the things that others can do that I can`t. I know that we shouldn`t compare ourselves to others, but one day I was struggling a bit to feel good about myself. Elder Jarrìn has really improved in his ability to give advice and help me improve as a missionary. He said ``Vamos elder. Un asistente no nació capo. Asì aprende.`` (Come on elder. An assistant (to the president) wasn`t born a stud. That`s why we learn.) That was really good advice for me.

I didn`t really have a super amazing scripture that I read this week, but something that I did like from my studies this morning was Mosiah 4:9. It basically just says that we need to believe. Faith, like happiness, is a choice. We can choose to believe whatever we want, but Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are hoping that we`ll put our faith in them.

I love you guys. I hope that everything is still wonderful at home. Listen to lots of Christmas music. Enjoy the season and be happy it`s not hot down there. Till next week,

-Elder Sultan

QandA...
Strangest thing you saw this week?
Shirtless man comes to the door and is very excited to talk to us.

Best treat this week?
We bought Choripan from a chino (supermarket owned by a Chinese person) and ate it in the pension while on divisiones.

Time you saw the Priesthood in action?
During the baptism and confirmation of Viviana this week.

Why were you at the mission president's house? We didn't see your comp in the picture.
We were at president`s house because he was welcoming us to the mission. It was a little bit late for us, but he still wanted to give us the welcome and talk to us about his expectations for us and stuff.

This must be Elder Jarrin, Jack's companion

Elder Jarrin, Elder Sultan, Viviana
