I´ll start with the part that everyone will follow. This was a really great week. I got to have an interview with President Robertson and we talked about my Book of Mormon testimony and how I was feeling about the mission. He said that he thought I might be ready to recieve a ´´newer´´ companion. That would be sweet.
I got to go on divisions with Elder Scalia who goes home at the end of this week (to Buenos Aires Argentina. He lives here haha). It was a lot of fun just working hard with him. I learned a lot. It was also my first time ´´in charge´´ of the area and I feel like I did pretty well. I forgot some stuff sure, but it was good.
My studies this week have been really good. A lot of reading and a lot of learning. I´m starting to understand a pretty good amount of Spanish song lyrics so that´s cool. I´m so happy that we have so much literature in the church. I´ve actually really been enjoying reading in Jesus the Christ and the Bible. All of the books that we have now are things that other generations might not have had. I look forward to having a very nice bookshelf when I´m an old man. Top Scripture for the week would be Alma 26:22
Now for the good stuff. My companion Elder Townsend made a rather funny observation the other day about missionaries and Conference. He said, for us, General Conference is like the Super Bowl. So in honor of that comment today, I´ll be giving the rundown of some of the best plays in the Conference Super Bowl.
We´ve had a great weekend looking at spiritual technique of some of the best in the game. Although it appears to have been a little cloudy on Temple Square this Sunday, there was plenty of sunshine in the souls of the General Authorities and Apostles to keep us interested. We´ll get started with what everyone´s been waiting for. The highlights from the Big 15. Can´t talk about the 15 best men the church has to offer without mentioning our incredible prophet Thomas S Monson. We were inspired by his performance this weekend giving us great council on the Book of Mormon and Charity. He was upheld greatly by your favorite 2nd counselor in the First Presidency Dieter F Uchtdorf. That German accent that we all love brought us several impressive insights and laughs about using love rather than fear as a motivator. Perhaps one of our favorite quotes here at the station would have to be ´´Church sleeps are the best sleeps.´´ Hey don´t laugh to hard. That´s doctrine now folks. Had to say that I was really impressed with the new guys this year. Recent additions to the 12, Elder Rasband and Renlund gave great talks on the Spirit and Repentance. Rasband really gave some fantastic advice on how to up our own game when it comes to working with the Spirit.
The World Report half time show was spectacular as always. The church is pushing big for family history work and many other important issues. Cameos from the Property Brothers and Giorde La Forge from Star Trek were noted.
Moving on now to the 70´s draft, we´ll be talking about our top 3 from this category. Gotta love to see these guys come up from the Quorum every year to give us some great material to chat here. Gary Sabin gave us a real pep talk when it comes to living the Gospel. His phrase ´´All in´´ gave us clear goals to shoot for in the coming weeks. Also on the list of favorites is a long shot Yoon Hwan Choi. Breaking through a bit of a language barrier, Elder Choi gave us some perspective on how we should be handling the daily challenges of the game. It´s true that the chaos around us might distract from what´s really important, but Elder Choi told us to never forget to Look Up to Christ and see what really matters. We´ll finish it off this week with my personal favorite Jaoquin E Costa. What a guy. Call me biased for being in Argentina on a mission, but this Elder really did a great job representing his country and the church. He outlined some great steps that investigators can use to get used to the new pace of the church. Now I´m not saying it´s the best idea to start seeing the missionaries just to be with a girl, but hey if that´s what gets you to the Gospel... Haha. We´re very appreciative of all who came out to show us what they´ve got this weekend. It´s been a great Conference, and we´ll be looking forward to seeing everyone back out here for October. Have a great week everyone.
Here´s to hoping that wasn´t too sacreligious. We love the Prophet, his Apostles, and everyone who spoke this weekend. I was really happy that we got the opportunity to recieve inspired council from our leaders. I know that these men are called of God to do what they do. It was a great moment to know that I was seeing the same discourses as everyone else world-wide and to know that my family was watching with me. Perhaps one of the greatest quotes this week didn´t actually come from Conference. Our investigator Laura blew us, me at least, away this Thursday when she said ´´The family isn´t perfect if it isn´t made with God.´´ She´s awesome. Though she couldn´t make it to Conference this weekend, she´s still very excited to be baptized in the near future.
I love all of you guys. I hope that you had amazing weeks and that this one will also be wonderful. Until next week,
-Elder Sultan
