Week 18 Transferred to General Rodriguez

For my family and friends,

I hope you guys know that I have books of pictures here with a ton of you guys in them. It`s always super funny to look back at all of the wonder experiences that we`ve had. For some reason the song ``Don`t Rock the Boat`` always pops into my head when I look at photos, probably because we have a family video that starts out with that song. The point is that I remember and I hope that you do too.

As for this week, it was a bit of a roller coaster ride. Last Monday I got to go to a buffet that was super good. Open grill, tons of desserts, and just great company. Super fun.

Perhaps our best investigator right now is named Cintia. She is super cool. She came to our baptism with Nestor and Anita on Saturday and she talked about how when we baptize her she`s going to invite all of her sisters. We talked to her this week about following the council of prophets and then talked to her about the church`s stance on tattoos and piercings. She`s already talked with missionaries before so she pretty much already knew. She took it very well. In case you`re wondering, she has at least three piercings in each ear, a lip ring, nose stud, and several tattoos. Should be very interesting to see how she progresses.

In the middle of the week around Thursday, it poured rain. Elder Millett and I went out to grab our lunch and ate at home in our pension. While we ate, the rain stopped. We made the rather foolish decision to go outside without our rain gear, and after riding a bus about 20 blocks from the pension, it picked right back up again. I got soaked. We had to walk back as it poured and I have to admit it made me kind of crazy. We took a second in the pension to get all of our stuff, redress, and chill for a bit. After that, it was much better.

The week ended on a crazy good note. I had my first baptism and it was so fun. We baptized a little old couple and they were so happy. We got to the chapel super early to fill the font, but apparently we got there too early because when they got in, they said it was super cold. Well, live and learn I guess. We also started super late because one of our members who was bringing baptismal clothes showed up late and another member forgot his stuff at home. That would`ve been fine if it was just us, but our mission president decided to stop by and see the baptism himself. Also while we were chatting with him, he kind of dropped a hint that I would be leaving in the next transfer which is definitely not what I thought would be happening. We baptized Nestor and Anita, but we didn`t actually see it because we were behind the scenes trying to keep everything running smoothly. Overall, I just felt like it turned out pretty good. Also for those of you who have not seen the Because of Him video on LDS.org, I highly recommend it. We watched it at the baptism in Spanish while Nestor and Anita got redressed and it`s awesome. Then we got the call for transfers Sunday night. I`m going to General Rodriguez which is where Elder Millett started the mission. He talks about it like it`s the promised land. My new companion will be latino and I`m super pumped. I`m very sad to be leaving my district, but I`m happy to be getting a fresh start in a new area.

A scripture that I read this week that I enjoyed would be 3 Nephi 18:24. It talks about holding up your light and that that light is Christ. As missionaries, our primary purpose is to strengthen the faith in Christ that the people here have. It`s hard work, but every rejection is one step closer to success.

I love you people. Till next week,

-Elder Sultan
