Today I think we`ll start with a nice little moment that I shared with my companion.
Monday night planning:
*Me planning badly* (of course my face is transparent so everyone knows how I feel just by looking at me)
Elder Jarrìn: ``Elder Sultan, you look like happy... SARCAMS.``
That`s right ladies and gentlemen. They're pretty big on using ``sarcams`` down here in Argentina.
Anyways, this week started out very different. For one, it is super hot here now. Our fan has broken. I had to move to sleeping on the floor because it`s too hot to sleep on the top bunk. Even though we use a Raid plugin, a chemical the offices gave us called permethrin, and I practically bathe in Off before going to bed, I am super bit up by mosquitoes. It`s so hot that you can`t even sleep. You have to go to the bathroom and pour cold water over yourself and then try to get to sleep as fast as possible. Crazy.
So that`s fun. Along with that, we have a recent convert who makes our lives very difficult. She basically told us that we can`t deny her baptism and she`s right. She keeps all the commandments but still has trouble with a lot of the doctrine. She asks us questions that force us to find her specific examples of things in the Bible and Book of Mormon. Teaching her has been a master`s level course in patience.
Friday, a family from the other side of Rodriguez invited us to dinner with the other Elders. The family has around 10 children I think, and it was super fun to eat and talk with them. Someone mentioned that I looked like an actor from a movie that they had watched recently ``El Diario de una pasión.`` That`s right. "The Notebook." I think Ryan Gosling`s character in the movie is named Noah because that`s what they started to call me. Good to see that some things never change.
We had a wonderful baptism this weekend for the Familia Acosta. The team here in General Rodriguez finally had a ``White Christmas`` moment because there were 4 of them and 4 of us and we were all dressed in white. Very cool. Elder Rojas gave an amazing talk. Before he spoke, we watched the Mormon message ``Because of Him`` (click here to watch it) and then Elder Rojas talked about how much he loved the mission and how he`s going home soon. Made me tear up a bit. He bore such a good testimony on the love that Christ has for us, and everything just turned out really nicely.
And that was my week. I hope that everyone is having a very happy new year. Best of luck keeping up with your goals. I love you guys.
-Elder Sultan
