Week 30 Appreciating the Atonement

Estimado familia y amigos,

What a week it has been. Elder Rojas has officially left the mission. My new companion for the transfer will be Elder Salmon. I will be staying here in General Rodriguez. Going to be a great change going from a 3:1 ratio of latinos to yankees to a 3:1 ratio of yankees to latinos. Plus I get to stay here with Elder Benitez so bonus!

Elder Rojas left this Sunday. Pretty much the whole week we heard about him saying goodbye to people and Saturday we got to have pizzas with our neighbor to give him a baby farewell. Sunday morning I made French toast (just for him, there weren`t enough eggs) and he got to give the class in Gospel Principles and a talk in sacrament. Both incredibly good. I find it interesting that when a missionary leaves, we say that he is ``dying.`` It`s funny that Elder Rojas is ``dying`` and just that day we were able to give a blessing to a baby. Elder Rojas shared a scripture from Doctrine and Covenants that said ``I the lord will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.`` I really have come to appreciate the Atonement in this mission, that even when we fail, no matter how many times, Christ's love always shines bright enough to reach us in the holes we dig for ourselves. (Click here to read more about how far Christ's love will go.)

Speaking of holes, we got to participate in digging a ``pozo`` this week. Saturday morning we went to the familia Moreno to help them with digging their pozo. A pozo is basically a hole that you dig until you reach water. They told us we`d have to go down about 5 meters. While we were there, we only got to about 2, but wow that is deep.

The bike repair shop that we usually go to was closed all week. As missionaries, we use bikes everyday. I think twice this week Elder Jarrìn had to grab my shoulder so I could pull us both to a shop.

This week, I`m going to be ``in charge`` of the area. I have to know where everything is and take us there. I have to introduce my new companion to everyone and remember the needs of our investigators. It`s going to be a great week. I love the quote that my father sent me this week from Ralph Waldo Emerson. ``What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are small matters compared to what lies within us.`` I love you guys. I hope that you keep happy this week and don`t stress. Until next week,

-Elder Sultan
